A quick picture before the battery died |
The first couple of fish had no interest in the fly despite me putting it directly in front of their face. A couple minutes later, the third target came cruising along. A little drag and drop had the hybrid fly falling right in front of his face. As the fly headed towards the bottom, the carp's tail went up, his head went down, and the fly disappeared.
He was only a few pounds and the water was rather cold so the fight was short but it felt good to beat the skunk. Of course, iPhones don't work too well in the cold so, like Zsa Zsa Gabor, he said, "No pictures" and back into the water he went. As for me, off I went as well.
Happy to hear you were able to get out and find a fish, and even catch a fish! Get's me to thinking about hitting the Fox this coming weekend.
ReplyDeleteI had to get out. Funny thing is that I almost said screw it after looking at how high the DPR and Dupage were. Ultimately I decided that a walk was better than nothing at all. The fish was a bonus. I think it was my first of the year too...
DeleteGood first carp story! Still have to get mine, maybe soon.

You still frozen over there, Gregg?
DeleteActually we are finally above average and have rain and the all important snow in the mountains to help our drought. However it is still icy cold in non spring influenced ponds, and I've seen no carp roll on the Snake River near one of my ponds. I am always heartened by March, it won't be long I'm sure.

Sounds like a fish story to me! Glad someone is getting out.
ReplyDeleteI may have set the bar for future stories a little high. If I'm not climbing trees, will they still be interesting?
DeleteCongrats on your fish. Any fish is good this time of year. That it turned out to be a Carp is a good sign for your season.
ReplyDeleteSure hope so, Mel! Thanks for the comment!

If you're versed in that whole ice fishing thing, I can understand the ability to endure the frozen stuff a little bit longer. Unfortunately, I am not
