A full 7 days off of work!

Quite a few years ago, I lived in Las Vegas and was selling timeshares. Everyday I was surrounded by people on vacation and really came to understand the importance of taking time to relax, recoup, and enjoy life. Aside from the obvious mental benefits, the physical health benefits of vacation are incredible. There is a reason why the UK mandates employees be given so much holiday.

This past week, I decided to take a week of "holiday" myself. Now given my experience in the vacation industry, I can say with 100% certainty that I did it all wrong. My back is killing me, I'm exhausted, and full of random scrapes and bruises.

I know what you're thinking - "What kind of vacation did you take that would cause all of that, Nick?" Being a bit of an outdoors guy, specifically a fishing addict, I must have been doing some awesome mountain fly fishing or extreme big saltwater game like marlin or something, right?

Wrong.

The truth is that in that entire week off, I didn't fish one time. That's right, not a single line went into the water for a single second. Instead, that entire week was spent moving. The wife and I closed on our new house last Wednesday and I have spent every waking hour since then either prepping the new house, packing, moving, unpacking, or cleaning. Even more amazing is that we're not even close to being done unpacking but we can get both of our cars in the garage so it's not all bad.

What I find truly incredible is the amount of stuff that we have accumulated over the past five or so years at our old place. I can't tell you all how many times I asked myself in the past week where all this crap came from.

So, in a nutshell, I have no new fishing reports to share but there are some great things coming up!! I received some new materials for a new fly pattern that I will be working on once I get the new BFA office set up. I also have a little 1 acre pond across the street from the new place for those quick little outings after dinner and with my little guy. In addition, I am about 30 minutes closer to the places I fish most often which means I spend a bit less in gas, less time traveling, and more time fishing.

Well....that's my update and I need a vacation.

P.S. If you're looking for a Realtor in the Chicagoland area, shoot me a message - I know a pretty damned good one ;)
